A guide to making the most of the only home you may ever own – with Eimear Nic an Bhaird
For years property shows have been persuading us to paint everything in shades of beige, remove any personal touches, tidy up the garden and flog our houses to the highest bidder. And now nothing is moving and neither are we - so we might as well invest a little of ourselves in our homes and sit pretty surrounded by the things we love. With less money to go around, we will be spending more time at home than ever; we might as well make the most of it and learn a few skills which can be put to good use.
Eimear Nic An Bhaird, former editor of House and Home Ireland, is going to show us how. At the tender age of 29, she has made a wealth of contacts in her short career, as well as establishing her own style of dress and décor.
Eimear has recently purchased her first home in Dublin - a 2 bedroomed mid-terrace old townhouse in the Kilmainham area of Dublin 8. The house is not in good shape and needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom. Eimear, a salvage yard junkie and hands-on creative person, will be bargaining for old furniture pieces to restore. With an eclectic taste and a collector of 'individual craft pieces', Eimear intends to transform this shell of a house using the best of Irish craftsmen and with a little help from her friends from the interior design world!
Each week Eimear tackles a different area of the house and visits some Ireland’s nicest homes and hotels for a little inspiration along the way. She visits Bellinter House, The G hotel, Lisloughery House, The Botanic Gardens and many many more looking for inspiration, all the time adding personality and charm to her home.
